A rescue story: new structure, new tooling, sold-out launch

Kanapet was the first manufacturer to develop the fully transparent pet cage. When one of China's leading small-pet brands wanted its own transparent hamster cage line, it first turned to another factory — but the resulting cages suffered from structural defects, triggering waves of customer complaints and returns.

The brand then came to us. We engineered a completely new structure and built brand-new molds from scratch — solving the failure points the previous supplier could not. The relaunched cage sold out almost immediately.

The transparent acrylic hamster cage we manufacture reached #2 Best Seller in the small-pet category on Amazon UK — at a premium £158 retail price — and the brand now ranks among the top sellers on Amazon UK and US. The partnership continues: we also developed the brand's silent-spinner exercise wheel.

A bird cage that combines metal wire panels with plastic parts only works when every dimension is engineered to fit — a tolerance missed at any stage means parts that simply don't go together. This European brand originally coordinated the whole chain itself: plastic tooling with one supplier, injection molding with another, wire forming, welding and coating with more — and spent enormous effort just managing the handoffs.

OEM/ODM — Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions buyers ask most before starting a project.

Who owns the mold, and how is the mold fee charged?

The mold fee depends on your cooperation model: if we handle the complete production run after tooling, it is one price; if you plan to take the molds away and produce elsewhere afterwards, it is a different price. Lead time is 30–45 days depending on complexity. Either way, once the fee is settled, the tooling is dedicated exclusively to your orders.

Do you charge for samples? How many revision rounds do I get?

Samples are produced 7–15 days after mold completion. Sample and mold costs are quoted per project with the feasibility assessment, and we revise the prototype until you approve it.

Will you sign a confidentiality agreement (NDA)?

Yes. We routinely sign NDAs before receiving your designs, drawings or brand information, and your project details are never shared with other clients.

What is the MOQ and payment term?

OEM/ODM projects start from 500 pcs per SKU (negotiable for modifications to existing designs); standard wholesale starts from 50 pcs. Payment is T/T with 30% deposit and 70% balance before shipment.

How long does a full OEM/ODM project take?

Typical timeline: 30–45 days tooling → 7–15 days sampling and approval → 25–40 days mass production after deposit. Total: around 2.5–3.5 months from concept to shipment.

Which trade terms and shipping methods do you support?

FOB Shenzhen / Guangzhou by default, CIF available on request. We ship by sea, air and express worldwide — we can handle logistics or work with your nominated forwarder.
